Monday might have come around too quickly once again, but fear not as we have a stunning real wedding to distract you from the working week ahead.
After falling head over heels in love with the beautiful Crewe Hall in Cheshire, Laura and Luke found picking their venue a doddle. Taking inspiration from its grandeur and class, the two then planned a sophisticated celebration full of pretty pink and purple summer blooms with fabulously fine attire for the wedding party.

laura says: We got engaged on my birthday at one of our favourite restaurants, The Swan with Two Necks in Blackbrook, Staffordshire. We’d been away travelling for nearly four months to Thailand, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. It turned out that Luke had taken the ring with him but never found the right moment – plus I think everyone was expecting it back home so he didn’t given in! We got home in March and he proposed in May – which nobody was expecting so it was a complete surprise which made it even more special. Luke was however given some grief about visiting many amazing places while we were away and missing his opportunity.
We set the date for Saturday 25th June 2016, as we wanted a summer wedding.
Our chosen venue was Crewe Hall in Cheshire. We got married in the library and had the wedding breakfast in the long gallery. We both loved Crewe Hall form the moment we saw it! We’d been to weddings there before and knew it was the place for us.
We didn’t have a specific theme but we wanted it to be classy and sophisticated to reflect the venue. Our colour scheme was subtle pinks, lilacs and purples.
I wore the Mirri dress by Sophia Tolli, which I bought from 7th Heaven Bridal in Congleton. It took me a while to find ‘the one’ but I knew as soon as I put the dress on that I’d found it. The girls at 7th Heaven are amazing and make you feel so comfortable!
Luke hired his and the groomsmen’s suits from Whitfield & Ward in Wilmslow. All the guys wore navy suits with tweed waistcoats. Luke wanted his and the guys’ suits to be a surprise on the day so I never knew what he had ordered.
My beautiful bridesmaids wore dresses by Mark Lesley.
Sarah of Sarah Horton Photography, captured our day and was absolutely amazing throughout. She captured all the natural moments of our guests which we loved looking back on. Our photographs are fantastic and our wedding day was documented in the most perfect way. I would recommend Sarah 100% to any bride and groom looking for a photographer!
Our florist was Flowers by Alison Cheshire. I originally wanted a shower bouquet but Alison suggested that I went for a handtied arrangement due to my dress being fitted – and how right she was! I knew I wanted roses and peonies, and then I let Alison pick the rest.
Alison also took care of all our floral decorations and setting everything up for us. We chose candelabras for the table centrepieces with crystal votives and Alison then used lots of votives and candle holders to decorate our top table. Mine and the bridesmaid bouquets were placed on the top table too. Everyone commented on how lovely the long gallery looked.
As favours we gave everyone a miniature bottle of their favourite spirit. The non-drinkers had chocolate truffles instead. Luke’s mum personalised all the bottles with what the spirit was and added everyone’s name.
My mum meanwhile made our wedding cake and cupcakes. She’s doesn’t make cakes as a profession she just does it as a hobby for family and friends. Our main cake was a fruit cake with sugar flowers, and the cupcakes were served during the evening buffet.
When it came to picking the wedding breakfast, Crewe Hall gave us a set menu to choose from as part of the package that we had taken. We decided to give our guests the option to pick their meals, they were given a choice of two starters, mains and desserts. Many people commented on how they thought that this was a nice touch.
To entertain guests during the drinks reception we hired a laser clay shooting activity from Laser Clays Entertainment – it was something different and was right up Luke’s street! They held a mini shooting competition for ‘best male’ and ‘best female’ shot, which encouraged all the guests to get involved. As part of the package they even provided us with personalised medals that we gave to the winners! Everyone commented on how good it was and that they’d never seen anything like that before at a wedding. Would 100% recommend this if people are looking for something a little different.
For the evening we had live band, The LiveWires, who we hired through Alive Network. We wanted a band that would get everyone up dancing and having a good time. When researching, The LiveWires had fantastic reviews and on the night they definitely got the party started! We would definitely recommend this band to others.
A highlight of the evening was our first dance. My grandma wanted us to have dance lessons prior to the wedding so we didn’t do the ‘typical’ first dance. We had around ten lessons with Shirley of Wedding First Dance, who was brilliant and extremely patient considering we hadn’t done any sort of dancing before! Our first dance was along the lines of a Viennese Waltz. We wanted it to be a surprise so no one really knew we were having lessons. Everyone loved it and they were all in shock at what we’d just done. Says something when people cry at the first dance but not during the ceremony!
After our wedding day we would definitely recommend Crewe Hall to other couples. Becky was our wedding coordinator and she was brilliant. You could call or email her any time and nothing would be too much trouble. The operations team, waiters and waitress on the day were fantastic and made sure everything was taken care of. We loved the whole day – I don’t think we would have changed a thing!
We got married on the Saturday and then jetted off to Bali for our honeymoon on the Monday morning. We visited the Gilli Islands, Ubud and Nusa Dua over three weeks. It was the perfect getaway after the wedding!
My top tip to other Brides Up North would be to enjoy every second of the wedding because it goes so fast! You’ll want to do it all again the next week.
