While we’re generally the type to break our new year’s resolutions (particularly those that include cutting down on wine and sugar!) quicker than a rendition of Auld Lang Syne, we do appreciate that a fresh calendar signals the perfect opportunity to make a few changes.
As such we’ve already had a huge wardrobe clear-out (watch out eBay!) and now our attention has turned to our bathroom cabinet and makeup bag. Anyone else in need of a revamped skincare regime and complete beauty overhaul? Especially for those of you whose wedding is creeping ever closer, you’re going to want to get your complexion in tip top condition and be in the know when it comes bridal beauty trends for the year ahead.
And so to arm you with all the necessary info, we’ve turned to our talented North-East based Sponsor, freelance makeup artist Alexandra Jane Edgar, to let us know what looks we can expect to see filtering through from the latest bridal runways, what products and tools were going to need to recreate them and she’s sharing a few golden beauty tips along the way too.
What would you say are going to be the key bridal beauty looks for 2019?
Alexandra says: The main bridal looks for SS19 fresh from the Bridal Fashion Week runways are absolutely dreamy. Metallics is one of the biggest trends, whether used on eyes or nails, paired with a nude lip. I particularly love the chrome silver wash over eyelids showcased by Berta.
What bridal beauty looks are you a particular fan of and why?
As a wedding makeup artist, I am a fan of a classic look that is timeless and elegant. You can take influence from the catwalks and fashion houses, but your look should always remain chic and elegant.
How can brides-to-be go about decluttering their makeup bags and making the most of the kit that they’ve got?
New year, new you means starting fresh with luxury products to see you through 2019. As a Preferred Client at www.alexadraedgar.arbonne.com you can benefit from the Arbonne Makeup Special Value Pack at only £170. This luxury, vegan brand entire kit combines six beauty must have basics. Then you choose your foundation, four eye shadows, concealer, blusher, eye liner pencil, brow tint, lipstick, lip gloss ad lip pencil, all of your choice. I can assist with colour matching by posting out foundation samples when you get in touch.
What would you advise to ladies who feel stuck in a beauty rut who want to try out new looks?
If you are feeling stuck in rut, simply book an appointment with me. We can discuss your skincare and I can advise on makeup that will suit you moving forward into a new year. It is always nice to get professional advice from an expert – I always take away so much from new tips and tricks from trusted industry friends to change up my look from my every day.
What key three items would you advise ladies to invest in in the new year?
Invest in some gorgeous new skincare to get that ultimate radiant look! I love the Arbonne RE9 Brightening Cleansing Foam £36, night cream for a real skin drench £75, and personal favourite the Genius Nightly Resurfacing Pads three times per week swiped over a clean complexion to reveal beautiful fresh skin when you wake.
And what about tools?
When it comes to makeup it really is essential to use great tools. As a starting point the Arbonne Cosmetics Brush Set £35 (a steal for quality brushes) gives you six super soft brushes with natural wood handles consisting of liquid foundation, powder, all over eye shadow, shading, and slant cheek brush. I love the concealer brush, which is my absolute favourite tool from any brand, at an additional £16. Space NK’s own brand is great for eyelash curlers. I use these every day to give my very straight lashes a lift. You must renew them every few months.
What would you advise for brides-to-be wanting to experiment with lipstick colours ahead of picking a shade for their big day?
This season lipstick is fabulous with the bridal runways awash with classic matte red and plum berry lips (which suits a smoky eye perfectly) the fashion forward brides out there. Peach and pinks also took the lead in the shows with matchy-matchy eyes, as seen at Danielle Frankel.
Similarly, with eyeshadows, what do you advise?
All eye colours look great in matte browns, blue eyes look fabulous in dark plums and sparkling black, while green eyes pop in shimmering bronze.
What would be your biggest beauty tips to share with brides-to-be?
My biggest beauty tip is to invest in your skincare and up your routine. The catwalk looks use very little, if no base, therefore you can really emphasise the eyes and lips. The products I recommend to you from Arbonne are the ones I use myself and apart from a little concealer under my eyes, I have been using nothing other than skincare on my complexion.
So, brides-to-be, it’s time to treat yourselves to some new luxury products to get your skin really working at its optimum level for you. The RE9 Brightening range is packed with Vitamin C to get that complexion glowing.
What plans do you have in the pipeline for 2019 that might be of interest to our bride-to-be readers?
This year I will be holding beauty and makeup workshops at my base in Newburn, Newcastle Upon Tyne. I am also excited to be working with a new videographer for my YouTube tutorials. I can’t wait to meet lots of lovely brides-to-be at Brides Up North’s upcoming Luxury Wedding Shows, taking place at the North East’s most stunning wedding venues.
