If a venue with a fantastical urban twist is your thing then you’re in for a treat today, as we head to the quirky As You Like It in Newcastle for Laura and Adam’s big day last summer.
In fact, the venue is so unique; the couple didn’t even need to craft their own theme, as the backdrop more than fulfilled the brief.
Plenty of beautiful blooms and wreaths, not to mention the glitz of some light-up letters, accentuate the space, working perfectly with the venue’s rustic exposed brickwork and wooden textures. Love!
The bride’s stunning gown is by one of our favourite designers, Pronovias, and she chose a truly elegant (and very long!) train – a reminder that attention to detail is needed from all angles when it comes to your bridal day style, ladies!

Proposal
Laura says
: We got engaged on 5th December 2017. We were at home joking around and dancing to Christmas music (which I love) when Adam surprised me, dropped to one knee and proposed.Setting
We got married on 29th June 2018. We chose this date because we couldn’t wait to get married and wanted a summer wedding.
Our ceremony and reception were held at As You Like It in Newcastle. We chose this venue because of its quirkiness. We love the rustic feel it has.
We didn’t have a theme, As You Like It has its own theme, which we loved!
Dress
My dress was a simple and elegant style, very fitted with a long train. The designer was Pronovias. I picked this gown because of the simplicity and elegance. I’m not a person who likes a lot of bling!
Groomsmen
Adam wore a three-piece navy blue suit from T.M Lewin. The groomsmen wore matching three-piece suits to the groom, also from T.M. Lewin.
Bridesmaids
My bridesmaid (my sister) wore a navy blue dress from Asos and my flower girl (my niece) wore a navy blue dress also from Monsoon.
Beauty
Danielle Hall from Dani MUA did our makeup, and Paula Hood from Northburn Hair did our hair.
Photography
Helen Russell was our photographer and she was amazing! We loved her style of work. From our initial meeting right through to the wedding day, she made everyone feel relaxed, as having a camera in your face can be daunting to some. I would highly recommend Helen to anyone as her work is great.
Videography
We booked videographer Micheal Sreenan (Mike) from Moon River Films. Mike was recommended to us by Helen, as they had worked together before. After looking at his work we knew we wanted him to be our videographer. We only reached out to him two weeks before we got married so we were very lucky he was free! Mike’s work is also amazing – you don’t even realise he’s there which is relaxing. Mike and Helen work brilliantly together too. I would recommend Mike for sure, so much so my sister is using him for her wedding in 2019.
Styling
For my bouquet, I had an all-white, mixed bunch of peonies and hydrangeas.
Bels Flowers provided my table wreaths and top table wreath too, which were a mix of greenery. The top table was the same, however to stand out, it had white flowers incorporated.
Cake
I chose a three-tier white cake, supplied by Peacocks Puds. Again, I wanted something simple. The cake had wreath incorporated around the tiers.
Dining
As You Like It does amazing food, so it was hard to narrow the food down, but we had a choice of beef or chicken, and also red, white and rose wine.
Entertainment
For our entertainment, we booked Folklore, as we liked the style in which they covered music. We also hired a photobooth from Snaparazzi Weddings and light-up letters from Coco Luminaire Prop Hire.
Thanks to
As You Like It is great value for money and the location, staff and service are all amazing too. We couldn’t fault anything. They made the day go smoothly and we had no issues. It is a great venue and I loved having my wedding there.
Best bit
The whole day was perfect so I couldn’t pick just one part. But I loved spending it with my friends and family.
Honeymoon
Our honeymoon was in Bali, it was a perfect place to spend ten days.
Advice
My top tip for other Brides Up North would be, relax, enjoy the day and take all of it in as it goes so quickly. I wish I could do it all again as it was the best day of my life!
We used the internet a lot for planning our wedding and Brides Up North was one of the websites we used for inspiration. As we don’t live in the UK, the internet was a great source especially as we were unable to attend any wedding fairs.
