How would you describe the design and style of Grantley Hall?

The Team says

: Interiors follow a contemporary country house style, designed to highlight the many historic features including original fireplaces, oak panelling and ornate cornicework, with art and furnishings handpicked by Valeria Sykes from a variety of local artisans and suppliers including the custom-made beds from Harrison Spinks. Large bottles of Yorkshire speciality damson gin from Raisthorpe Manor at Malton feature in all bedrooms for guests to sample.

As a patron of New Light, a chartable initiative supporting visual arts in the north of England, Valeria has chosen an eclectic selection of art from local artists to adorn the walls of Grantley Hall, from the more classic country landscapes by James Naughton in the reception area through to the more abstract colourful oil collages by Simon Casson in Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall. A striking metallic sculpture resembling fish scales by created by Harrogate-based architectural metalwork company Kendrew takes a central position in the hotel gardens.

Can you tell us about the venue’s culinary offering, including its fine dining restaurant?

Grantley Hall’s culinary credentials will not disappoint with the highly acclaimed British chef, Shaun Rankin topping the bill.  The Yorkshire-born chef, who gained his first Michelin star in 2005, is returning to his roots to preside over Grantley Hall’s fine dining restaurant, Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall.

The elegant restaurant showcases what Rankin does best, local produce cooked in season with his unique signature twist. At his request, and to support his vision for locally sourced sustainable produce, the hotel is developing its own kitchen garden complete with beehives and fruit trees within the grounds.

Other gastronomic highlights include a vibrant Pan-Asian experience, Bar and Restaurant EightyEight; a relaxed all-day dining restaurant, Fletchers; The Drawing Room, serving quintessential British afternoon tea; a glamourous late-night Champagne and cocktail bar, Valeria’s and a spa lounge offering nutritious light meals and snacks.

The venue also boasts spa, can you tell us a little about its facilities?

Spa, wellness and fitness are a central part of Grantley Hall’s superlative offering.

The tranquil Three Graces Spa offers restorative treatments throughout its five cocooning treatment rooms, wet and thermal facilities. Working in partnership with two esteemed spa brands that are both renowned for their intuitive and distinctive approach, ila –with its nurturing ethos and results-driven pure, natural products created exclusively for Grantley Hall – and luxury Spanish skincare experts Natura Bissé, a bespoke menu of face and body treatments, therapies and extended spa journeys has been created.

The spa is also home to an 18-metre indoor swimming pool, indoor-to-outdoor hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room and snow room, serene relaxation room and outdoor terrace.

And what about its fitness facilities?

Led by Duncan Roy – a double Guinness World Record Ocean Rower who recently completed the Row4Victory Atlantic rowing race – Grantley Hall’s fitness and supporting wellness facilities are set to be amongst the best in the country.

Three fitness spaces are at the heart of the venue’s ELITE Executive Gym and Wellness

with a fully-equipped gym; a strength and conditioning gym and a health and performance area which includes the Randox Health Lab (delivering high-level testing and analysis), biometric machines, cryotherapy chamber, three altitude-enabled compact training rooms, including one with an H20 underwater treadmill and a multi-discipline studio and spin room that enables classes to be delivered at altitude. For amateur or professional athletes looking to enhance their endurance training, there will be two bedrooms that can be altitude controlled to ensure a comprehensive approach.

Bespoke personal training programmes can also be created based on individual performance analysis, and group sessions are also available, including spinning, yoga, Pilates, meditation and mindfulness as well as the opportunity to enjoy hiking, cycling, running and outdoor training in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside.

What types of activities can Grantley Hall guests enjoy during their stay within the local area?

Comfy waterproof jackets and wellies will be available for guests to borrow before they head off to explore the great outdoors come rain or shine. The World Heritage site and National Trust-run Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal is on the doorstep, a pleasant three mile saunter from the hotel across fields and through ancient woods.  For longer walks, the scenic North Yorkshire Moors are close by offering an abundance of nature and wildlife with a variety of routes on offer. A trip to the medieval city of York comes highly recommended with its towering spires, stained glass windows and charming cobbled streets, or stay closer to home with a jaunt to the spa town of Harrogate or Ripon with its picturesque market square and impressive cathedral.  The experienced Grantley Hall Concierge team is on hand to assist with local recommendations and can organise tickets and transportation if required.

For more energetic guests, the Yorkshire Dales offer some of the country’s most superb cycling, and bicycle hire can be arranged via the hotel’s Concierge team. During shooting season, the hotel can also arrange access to some of the country’s best grouse and pheasant shoots.
