Into The Woods. A Styled Wedding Shoot at Cheshire Woodland Weddings

Sarah Symonds

There really are some beautiful spots in England and this woodland in Cheshire is exactly the kind of place that makes a UK wedding so magical. Get ready for some summer woodland wedding inspiration that’s going to make planning your big day a breeze.

The first thing you’ll notice about these gorgeous shots by photographer Tanya Flannagan is how bright and pretty everything looks, which is something of a prerequisite for Tanya who specialises in this type of imagery herself. We just love the lightness of this colourful shoot and the summery palette shows off the venue perfectly, with pops of pastel blue and lemon yellow accenting the greens of the surrounding foliage.

The perks of an outdoor, woodland wedding are endless. Set up the day, and then the evening, in whatever formation suits you best as a couple, add as much or as little styling and decor as you please, or get all Robin Hood and Maid Marian with a spot of archery and involve a local barn owl, as you do!

Pretty, elegant and fun was the order of the day for Tanya and her band of merry men and women, and we reckon they’ve nailed it. Check out what Tanya had to say on how the whole shoot went down.

INSPIRATION

Tanya says: This gorgeous shoot took place in August 2020, in the woodlands in Cheshire. The venue was such a beautiful and perfect place for the upcoming trend of ‘the outside bride’, which worked amazingly well and complimented the elegant look and styling we created.

I really wanted the light and colours to come out – I love a bright and airy look to wedding photographs. This worked perfectly with the sun beaming through the woods onto the bride and groom, as well as the set up. Now that outdoor weddings are becoming really popular, we wanted to show how gorgeous you can make your ideas and concepts come to life, by bringing the indoors out!

LOCATION

I chose Cheshire Woodland Weddings because they have such a big range for weddings and are able to make them fun and different.

The fact that outdoor weddings are becoming more popular made it a no brainer for the shoot. The outside ceremony location is picturesque with all the woodlands and scenery, and even if it rains they have huge canopies that cover the entire seating section, so that’s one less thing to worry about! As well as that, you can do a huge range of activities on site – including falconry and archery – which adds a little something different.

STYLING

The colours yellow, blue and grey were chosen as they work together so well, and pastel yellow is fast becoming one of the colour trends for 2021! The blue was selected to give a cool yet subtle contrast of colour, in keeping with the elegant feel of the shoot and the grey to break up the tones and give it a little elegance.

We had so many beautiful and hand created items, such as the veil with all the blue and silver embroidery, stationery with silver flakes and blue ink with a wax seal to compliment the colour choice.

The cake was simple yet elegant with the white icing and yellow florals to match the bouquet, and the silver flakes to tie in with the stationery too. The tableware also had a pop of colour, with blue tumblers which looked gorgeous in the light. All the suppliers worked so hard to pull this pretty and pastel look together!

ATTIRE

The suit was chosen in a light grey as blue and grey work great together. Grey is beautiful next to the white wedding dresses too, which bought the light and airy look to the shoot we wanted. The blue tie matched with the theme and the brown shoes set off the suit with some contrasting colour.

The gorgeous hairpieces and bridal accessories were chosen as they had a lovely, delicate look to them, complimenting the brides face and the hair the pins sat in. The veils worked so well with the theme, as we wanted the blues to stand out with the veil on the dress. A veil makes for a fun and pretty look, but they will always be classic and timeless.

BEAUTY

The makeup was done by the bride – as COVID restrictions meant we couldn’t have someone come in. However we always wanted a natural look with subtle eyes, lips and foundation. The hair was partly up, and curled soft waves to give some shape and movement in the photos – especially the dancing ones. You can’t beat hair flowing loose for the pretty action shots!

RESULTS

The shoot went amazingly well! It was very smooth and everything ran on time. The aim of the shoot is to bring local suppliers and the wedding community together, to create a look and be a part of a team.

Everyone worked so hard and without them this wouldn’t have been possible! The highlight was really just how much fun we had – talking, gathering ideas and putting them all out there. We also got to have the barn owl be a part of our shoot – which was incredible!!

We achieved everything we wanted at our photoshoot and I can’t wait to work together with the team again!
