Dreamfields. A Festival Wedding Styled Shoot at Simply Fields

Sarah Symonds

Today we’re giving you VIP access to Dreamfields, a fabulous party styled shoot held at Simply Fields, a perfect blank canvas of a venue just outside Burnley. And you won’t even need a wristband!

Run by Neil and Lindsay, Simply Fields is part of Tattersalls Farm in Hurstwood. It’s now been given a new lease of life as a unique and alternative venue space, having been in Neil’s family for over 150 years. With a team of all Lancashire-based suppliers, the party vibes have been amplified into a bash that your guests would love to attend, so if you’re looking for ideas for your unconventional celebration, look no further.

Pops of orange, pink and gold would brighten up even the darkest day (despite the gail force winds!) and ensure the festivities continue well into the night. Set the tone with bright colours, on-trend style and a bold pink suit for the fashion-forward groom!

We love knowing a project gave a group of skilled suppliers the chance to have a little fun during a very quiet time for the industry. No one’s sitting on their laurels here! We’ve been chatting to photographer Jules to get the behind the scenes goss…

CONCEPT

Jules says: The shoot was organised by Lindsey, the owner of Simply Fields, and Daniella, the Hair and MUA, as a promotional shoot for the venue. The theme was also their brainchild. The focus being to create a modern, chic, boho feel while promoting the venue to couples who are looking for a unique, relaxed wedding venue with total party vibes.

The shoot is titled Dreamfields as a play on the venue’s name and the Creamfields, nightclub, party theme.

LOCATION

All the suppliers involved in shoot are the venue’s recommended suppliers. It was the first time we have all come together for one big shoot!

Simply Fields is set in the rolling Lancashire hills, with views for miles. If you manage to have the pleasure of a golden hour at this venue it’s totally stunning!

The festival vibe suits us perfectly as predominantly it is a super cool outdoor venue, where DJ sets and bell tents can be added to the grounds on your big day for that real festival feel.

STYLING

Tinglz Events Decoration Hire and Lily Rose Florist created a stunning atmosphere with their creative décor. Pampas grass, rose golds, pinks and orange linked the colour theme together. Modern, on trend but with a big twist of colour! Pink is the colour of Simply Fields branding so I really wanted this to be the main focal colour of the whole shoot.

Antha Event Hire brought the party with their neon signs, fizz wall, venue lighting, spark machines & their totally unique carousel horse, which made for many fun photos during the evening party section of the shoot.

Scrummy food was provided three amazing suppliers. The Little Green Platter Company provided the daytime grazing boards, FoodyPants spoiled us with canapes and paella and Rosehill Cake Studio topped off the treats with delicious cake pops and biscuits.

ATTIRE

The two bridal gowns that Holly, our model, wore were kindly loaned to us from Jane at Foxgloves Brides. We choose foxgloves as she has a stunning range of chic designs at her Lancashire boutique.

Brad, our male model, wore a Topman suit, then an ASOS suit in the evening. The pink suit was daring but looked so strong. I think both suits totally made the whole theme link together.

BEAUTY

For the hair and makeup, Daniella wanted to capture the young, on-trend vibes of the couple.  She kept the hair relaxed with voluminous waves and kept the makeup neutral yet added the glam needed with all the modern elements. Think golden, glowing, contoured skin, fluffy brows, glossy lips and perfectly defined eyes. Totally on-trend yet effortlessly timeless.

RESULTS

The shoot was full on! With lots to capture, we were shooting from 2pm till 10pm, as it was a day to night styled shoot.

We had twelve suppliers to showcase, as well working with Holly and Brad and contending with crazy gale force winds! I would have loved to have photographed more of the models and the suppliers’ props outdoors but unfortunately that could not happen. We did manage to get a few moments of calmness to pop out to capture some beautiful blue skies.

Ben from North West Wedding Video and myself focused on our models as soon as we got a dry moment. Ben was such a great guy to be partnered with on the shoot, we bounced ideas around all day. It’s always great to have positive energy and chemistry when you’re working side by side with other creatives on a shoot. During a styled shoot, photography and video are focusing on so many different factors, technical, creative, timing, getting the best from your models and capturing your suppliers aims and needs, so good positive teamwork is key.

A lot of my personal aims during the shoot were not 100% fulfilled due to the crazy weather and time constraints, but I did have a lot of fun, worked with some amazing wedding suppliers and had the opportunity to try a few new ideas with the models, who were amazing! Overall, I think the shoot turned out beautifully and really captured the brief!

2020 has been such a sad year for the wedding industry, not to mention the many couples who were due to get married. As weddings are pretty much off until next year I am currently putting all my energies into more styled shoots. Planning shoots during this quiet period is really helping me to stay motivated and push myself creatively. Use it or lose it, as they say!

It’s always great to meet new suppliers within the industry, as you learn so much from each other. Never stop learning. I never normally have this much free time, so I am using my time wisely and having the best time doing it. Watch this space for more styled shoots… until 2021 when it’s going to be real weddings all the way!
