Ladies and gents, please take your seats as we get ready for the navy and blush pink wedding perfection that is the big day of Colette and Stuart…
Today Owen House Wedding Barn is hosting a fun and relaxed wedding, as Colette and Stuart tie the knot in the later summer of 2019 – a time before anyone had even heard of Covid19! It’s lovely to read about a day back when weddings were still at their peak, as our couple’s guests gathered en mass to celebrate their union.
Colette looks like a picture perfect princess in her full skirted gown and diamante embellished veil, surrounded by her bride tribe of ‘maids in a muted, blush taupe and sequins. The rustic charm of their dream venue is accessorised by their chosen decor, including bright neon signage and those cherry blossoms taking center stage during the wedding breakfast.
We love seeing all their beloved guests partying away into the night, everyone up and dancing as the live band plays. It’s got us feeling all misty eyed about the good old days of weddings. We can’t wait to resume normality again next year and see all of your receptions back in full swing! For now, let’s absorb the joy and happiness of Colette and Stuart’s big day…

Colette says: Stuart proposed on New Years Eve 2017. He cooked a four course meal and lit fireworks in the garden at midnight, at which point he got down on one knee!
Our wedding date was the 6th of September 2019. We picked a month that would still potentially be warm(ish) and where the flowers and the trees were still in bloom. We didn’t want a month that was too warm for all those in a three piece suit!
We had our ceremony and reception at Owen House Wedding Barn in Mobberley. On our first viewing, we fell in love with the venue and knew it was where we wanted to spend our special day. We wanted to find a venue that meant our guests weren’t having to travel far and wanted to ensure that we could have both the ceremony and reception in one location so our guests could relax and have a drink as soon as they arrived.
We went for blush pink and navy blue. After spending lots of time on Pinterest, we decided that this was our favourite colour combination.
I went for a princess style dress with lots of embellishment at the top and a long train. I had always dreamt of a dress like this so knew exactly the style I wanted when I began trying them on. I also went for a long, diamante veil to match. I initially went to a bridal outlet in Stockport to try on a few different styles to see which would suit me best and fell in love with my dress whilst I was there. So I only went to one shop!
Stuart wore a navy blue suit from Slaters Menswear with a grey waistcoat and navy blue tie. The groomsman wore a navy suit from Slaters to match Stuart’s but with a navy waistcoat and blush pink tie.
My bridesmaids wore a tulle maxi dress with tonal delicate sequins in a taupe blush colour from ASOS. The dresses were stunning. One of my bridesmaids was pregnant and the range offered a variety of different fits (Maternity, Tall etc.) which was great and exactly what we needed to ensure they all felt comfortable. My flower girls wore ivory dresses with a lace bodice, from Matalan.
Our hair and makeup was done by Danielle Horan. She is amazing at what she does and we were all really pleased with how we looked. She listened to our requirements and fit the brief perfectly.
Katie Sidell was our photographer. She came highly recommended by my best friend as she did the photography for her wedding too. Katie met with us prior to the day to talk through exactly what we wanted (and didn’t want) and we felt she could capture the day perfectly – which she did. The pictures are amazing and I would highly recommend Katie.
Chapelford Films also came recommended by my best friend, and I knew that they had worked with our photographer before. They did a great job and they captured the day perfectly without being at all imposing. I would definitely recommend them.
We got our flowers from Alison at Diddibox Flowers. I had a combination of pale pink astilbe, ivory garden rose, ivory spray rose and a small amount of Mirabella gyp and eucalyptus, tied together with an ivory ribbon. My bridesmaids and flower girls had a scaled down version of my bouquet.
We got the majority of our decorations from Uplit Event Hire, including blush blossom trees for the table centre pieces, two large blush canopy blossom trees for over the top table, a ‘It was always you’ neon sign for behind the cake and all of our candles and lanterns.
We hired a ‘LOVE’ sign for behind the top table from UNVEILED Network Member The Added Extra and our lighting (up lighters and festoon chandelier) was from Hipswing. We used Brides Up North mainly for wedding inspiration and to get ideas from how other couples celebrated their big day.
We had personalised love hearts and an embarrassing photo of each of our guests in their places at the tables.
We chose a white and blush, three-tier sponge cake from Kylie’s Cakes for Occasions in Stockport.
Each table had a number of bottles of red and white wine and the food, supplied by Barretts Event Caterers, was flaked salmon and parsley potato cake with Manchester caviar (mushy peas) and tartare sauce, followed by a main of roast breast of chicken, sage and onion stuffing, thyme scented potatoes and allotment vegetables and then dessert of potted chocolate cheesecake with Oreo soil. We chose the food as it would suit most people and it was our favourite option from the tasting evening!
We chose a band called Friends of the Bride through UNVEILED Network Member Warble Entertainment. We picked them as they played the kind of music we wanted and a mix of songs that would appeal to all of our guests.
Definitely our venue! The barn is amazing and total a blank canvas so each couple can tailor their day. There is onsite bed and breakfast accommodation, a room for the bridal party to get ready and a separate room for the groomsman. The staff were really helpful and made us feel relaxed and everything was taken care of.
All of our suppliers gave us the service that we hoped for on the day and contributed to making the day special. We would recommend them all.
The food and the speeches were our favourite part as it meant the more formal bits were over and it’s when everyone got to relax and have a drink.
We went to the Unico 20 87 hotel in Riviera Maya in Mexico. It was incredible and everything we could have wished for on our honeymoon. Top quality all-inclusive food and drink, 24 hour room service, a hot tub on our balcony and spa treatments. We spent two weeks there and didn’t want to leave!
Our advice would be to enjoy the build up, get married early so you have as much time as you can after to celebrate and take some time to sit back and watch everything that’s going on. The day goes so quickly!
