Welcome to Skitby House near Carlisle for today’s styled shoot, with a look at pretty, autumnal style and a rustic, real farm romance. Get ready to be swept off your feet by this traditional Lakeland love story as we explore all that the venue has to offer.
It might’ve once been a working dairy farm but these days UNVEILED Network Member Skitby House is a gorgeous, rustic wedding venue in picturesque Cumbria. Mixing ancient stone and timber with modern comforts and a contemporary finish, Skitby is the ideal backdrop for today’s boho, autumnal themed shoot.
With a palette perfect for a wedding set in the later months of the year, we’re seeing blush tones, burnt oranges, warm browns and soft creamy neutrals against the maroon of the venue’s wall colouring. Highlighted by classic, romantic candlelight, the harmony of mixing fresh and dried flowers with feathers adds some amazing seasonal texture to the whole look of the bouquet, the table top florals and the cake. And we couldn’t let the styling go by without a mention for that incredible sphere chandelier! How cool?!
Speaking of texture, that Maggie Sottero gown is ultimate bridal goals, and is really a beautiful choice to be worn alongside the groom’s tweed Marc Darcy suit. We’ve been chatting to the Skitby House team to get the real insider goss on the styled shoot, the venue’s strengths and the local suppliers.

CONCEPT
Katherine says: The inspiration behind this shoot was to focus on the current trend of the micro wedding. We wanted to create a shoot that was intimate and romantic, and with the vibe and colour scheme chosen we nicknamed the shoot “Falling in Love”.
LOCATION
As wedding planner and manager at Skitby, the location for the shoot was right in front of me. I teamed up with Naomi House Photography and we began pulling together a team of suppliers for the shoot. The new décor and the turning of the leaves outside in the gardens instantly blended with the peachy theme we were aiming for.
Skitby is a quirky barn wedding venue located in North Cumbria, with exposed beams and stone walls. It’s a versatile space and can cater for much larger weddings but the shoot focuses on and shows off how amazing smaller weddings can look.
STYLING
Channelling that autumnal boho vibe, table décor included white draping ruffles along the centre of the table with gold candle sticks and gold rimmed glass tea light holders. We added glass beaded charger plates, white napkins and Just Yours created some bespoke stationery to match the colour theme. We wanted to create a wow factor and featured a rustic sphere chandelier supplied from the Skitby shop for the shoot. Venue stylist and décor hire company Roses and Hearts Boutique Events, based in Carlisle, creates the most beautiful styling with some of the best quality props.
Elegance en Fleurs is a professional creative florist in North Cumbria sourcing flowers from a variety of suppliers. A combination of fresh and dried flowers and foliage were used for our shoot, to create an eye-catching blend of colour and texture for the stunning bridal bouquet, buttonhole and table designs. From beautiful pale pink rosa, blushing bride brunia and astilbe, to blue-green eucalyptus cinerea and mimosa foliage, red eucalyptus populus berries and Miscanthus, the orange of Carthamus and the ethereal addition of white Limonium, broom and Cortaderia. Together this created a harmoniously soft yet striking design.
The cake design by Sprinkles and Sparkles in Carlisle was perfect for this shoot and accessorising it with a small bunch of dried flowers was amazingly effective. All together we created a warm cosy vibe with a mix of neutral colours and peachy tones – the perfect fall colour combo.
ATTIRE
One of the most exciting aspects of a shoot is the beautiful dresses and Carol’s Bridal Boutique really did have us spoilt for choice. As we were working with peachy tones, we did not want a plain white dress but rather a dress with some texture, and the chosen Maggie Sottero dress did just that.
As we were focused on a fall shoot it was without question that tweed would be the fabric for our groom and the chosen Marc Darcy three piece suit from Goodfellows was perfect.
BEAUTY
We went for a more vintage look with makeup and wanted our model to look quite natural, something that will appeal to the more traditional bride. A classic flicked eyeliner with a subtle bridal glow just adds to the bride’s beauty. Makeup was done by Makeup By Amy Brown, A qualified and experienced make up artist based in Kendal who uses high quality products to create a bride’s desired look whether it be a natural glow or full glam.
We wanted soft hair styling and Kings Hair Studio in Dalston managed to create the look with such a beautiful updo.
RESULTS
The shoot was so much fun, and it was fantastic to be able to work with some amazing suppliers, sharing our passion for weddings and the industry that we work within.
We wanted to touch on the boho idea but in a different way and we’re over the moon with the results. Our models were simply perfect too!
