Golden Hour. A Colourful Wedding Shoot at Priory Barn & Cottages

23rd February 2021 | Alexis Forsyth

There are festival feels and country vibes aplenty in today’s inspiring creative shoot, which was the mastermind of talented Yorkshire-based photographer, Hannah Brooke.

Priory Barn & Cottages, situated close to Wetherby, provides the captivating backdrop, styled to the max with pops of colour, pretty florals, and the most gorgeous macrame hanging that perfectly frames those all-important ceremony shots and exchange of nuptials.

The fun continues outdoors with a vintage campervan and the cutest pooch! One of Hannah’s goals for the shoot was to capture gorgeous portraits during the golden hour when the sun sets, providing lots of ambient lighting and dramatic skies. Wedding photography goals if ever we did see them in action!

Lucky for us, Hannah is here to tell us more about the shoot and all the wonderful suppliers who helped bring her colourful vision to life. She’s also offering all Brides Up North readers £100 off her full-day wedding photography packages – so hit her up and get her booked!

Inspiration

Hannah says: I wanted to create a laid-back, country wedding with lots of colour and festival vibes to showcase lots of local wedding suppliers during the pandemic.

Location

I chose Priory Barn & Cottages because it’s the perfect venue for a small, intimate wedding and I had visions of the beautiful golden hour across those cornfields – and I was really lucky with the weather that day! It’s also super local to me and I’d love to photograph some real weddings there!

Styling

We kept it fairly simple and more about the bride this time. We used a macramé hanging from The Knotted Bell as the backdrop for the ceremony along with beautiful florals from Lavender & Thyme. The talented Natalie Bakes Cakes from North Yorkshire provided our stunning rainbow-bright cakes and sweet treats. The brief for all suppliers was quite simply: COLOUR!

Our vintage campervan from Love Me Do Wedding Cars was such a cool addition to the setting, perfectly in-keeping with the festival vibes.

Attire

I chose a Daughters of Simone dress, as I loved the two-piece, and bought it from a sample sale. It’s so different and I knew it would show off Charlotte’s natural beauty. I wanted something really laid-back and summery that we could accessorise without looking OTT, and we used some fabulous items supplied by Bunny Loves Evie.

Jo Bagshaw, a jewellery maker based in York, provided the rings for the shoot which was complemented by a gorgeous ring cushion from UNVEILED Network Member My Billet Doux.

Beauty

Our makeup artist and hairstylist on the day, UNVEILED Network Member Natalie Willingham, went for a beautiful, dewy and natural look with a lovely colour on the lip. The hair was also natural and simple.

Results

It went brilliantly! It was a late afternoon shoot and I was really hoping for a beautiful golden hour. Everything ran to plan and I was not disappointed with the sunset!

I’d also like to thank our celebrant, Penelope Jayne, and dog chaperone Katie and Co Weddings (who took care of my pooch, Lottie!) for their contributions to the shoot, too.

I’m taking bookings for 2021 and beyond and I am offering all Brides Up North readers £100 off my full-day packages.
