Glorious Memories: Bloom Weddings

Sarah Symonds

Can’t think of anything better than having husband and wife photography duo Bloom Weddings on hand to capture your first day as newlyweds? Us either, especially when they’re as talented as these two…

Today’s UNVEILED Network Member spotlight is on a husband and wife team with the skills to pay the bills. Annie and Chris have been shooting weddings together for over 10 years and, at this point, are so on the same wavelength that they’re practically communicating telepathically, while shooting your special day from all kinds of snazzy fly-on-the-wall angles. They won’t miss a moment so your wedding is in safe hands with this talented couple.

We’ve been chatting to Annie and Chris to find out why they think it’s important to capture the whole day in full and how, for them, this includes the option of a highlights video or feature length videography alongside the photography.

We’ve been picking their collective brains for the special spousal behind the scenes tips and tricks, such as making sure you like your photographer as an individual first and foremost, and checking that they can still get the effect you like in different types of lighting, especially if you’re planning a winter wedding. Let’s get these pointers and so much more…

Photography by Bloom Weddings

Hi guys!

We are Chris and Annie, AKA Bloom Weddings! We’re a husband and wife photographer team that combines our creativity and technical skill to capture your big day in a fun and stress free way.

Where did your passion for photography come from?

We both studied photography at university and, after graduating, we second shot alongside other wedding photographers. We knew that photographing people was our favourite thing to do! We have never looked back. The way we both have slightly different roles, ideas and views on a wedding day works really well and you get a mix of unique perspectives from the both of us.

What do you love about capturing a couple’s big day?

We love EVERYTHING! Capturing the big moments like the bride walking down the aisle, stunning sunset portraits and the tear-jerking vows. Not forgetting the small but equally beautiful intimate moments with family members and friends for the couple to look back on in years to come.

How would you describe your style of photography?

We’d describe our style as warm, fun and natural documentary photography

What’s your approach like on the wedding day?

On a wedding day, Chris is with the groom and Annie with the bride in the morning, that way both areas are covered equally! During the ceremony, one of us hides at the front and one at the back so we can get two different angles, photographing ‘fly on the wall’ for the whole time. We then work it so one of us will capture group photos whilst the other photographs family and friends during the reception! We do two sets of bride and groom portraits if time allows, one in the reception and one in the evening around sunset, and try not to take too long! For the rest of the day we capture it as naturally as it happens, right through until everyone is busting some shapes on the dance floor!

How do you build relationships with your couples

We have FaceTime or Zoom calls with our couples as many times as they want and like to keep in contact via email with any changes to their wedding day. On the wedding day we like to be friendly and approachable. People often say how we’re like an extra bridesmaid or groomsmen on the wedding morning, helping out with dresses and buttonholes!

What sets you apart from other photographers?

We’re a husband and wife team that have been shooting weddings like this for over 10 years. We know exactly what each other is thinking with just a look usually! We think our editing style is warm and full of fun, and if the couple opt for our highlights film too, we try to make the photography and video match styles perfectly.

Do you have a favourite part of the day to capture?

Whilst we don’t want to take the bride and groom away for too long, we do enjoy creating beautiful portraits of couples with amazing light at sunset! We also love shooting the ceremony – emotional moments get us every time!

Where does your work take you?

We find ourselves in Yorkshire mostly, however we have shot throughout the UK and abroad.

What would be your top tips for couples searching for a wedding photographer?

  1. Make sure you like their style of photographing AND editing.
  2. Make sure you like your photographer as an individual too, they will be there for the whole day!
  3. Ensure they can photograph in different types of lighting set ups – especially winter weddings when light can be limited. Some photographers have more experience with this than others – ask to see a wedding at a similar time of year or situation to your own.

What options do you offer when couples are booking you?

We think it’s important to capture the wedding day in full, the story of the day, so our packages include all day photography, with the option of a highlights video, but we also offer feature length videography too.

How can couples get in touch with you and see more of your work?

You can find us on our website, our videography website, Facebook, or Instagram or email us on info@bloomweddings.co.uk
