Tuscan Neutals. A Wedding Inspiration Shoot at Thirsk Lodge Barns

Sarah Symonds

Deliciously soft neutral tones, a mix of gorgeous textures and a blank canvas venue in the heart of Yorkshire. Plus THE confetti shots to send you swooning as we pour over these pretty and simple details…

Today’s styled shoot has been organised by Workshops by Lark, the brainchild side-hustle of Rebecca Marie Weddings, who creates luxurious wedding workshops in both the UK and abroad. Is there no end to this woman’s talents?

Bringing a touch of the Tuscan hilltops to chilly Thirsk is no mean feat but this team of wedding industry pros have managed to do just that. We absolutely love that al fresco, banquet style table setup in the courtyard, and those intimate, romantic, candlelit dinner shots that it offers.

Yep, from the stunning simplicity of the featured bridal gowns, the handsome groom in a tux and the all neutral colour palette, this one’s for those less-is-more, keep-it-chic couples who are looking for European elegance at home.

CONCEPT

We wanted to create a luxe shoot, showcasing how glamour and luxury can be used in a barn venue. We wanted to maximise the beautiful outdoor terrace at Thirsk Lodge Barns and showcase almost Tuscan vibes.

LOCATION

Thirsk Lodge Barns is a brand new, exclusive-use venue on the outskirts of Thirsk, in Yorkshire. We wanted a blank canvas space with lots of different rooms and looks to shoot in.

STYLING

The pale colour palette was all about the whites, creams and pastels, monochrome with very subtle splashes of pink and peach. Classic and contemporary elegance. We wanted to create a really unique floral installation as an absolute showstopper for our gorgeous couple to pose in front of.

Our planner and stylist Rebecca Marie Weddings is based Devon but covers the whole of the UK and destination weddings.

Our photographer was Hannah Brooke Photography, the florist Sass Flower offers floral design for style-led couples and brands, and stationery was by UNVEILED Network Member Carolyn of Gray Starling, based in Leeds.

ATTIRE

Again, it was all about contemporary elegance. We went for simple but stunning bridal gowns with a simple tux for our groom to top it all off. Ghost Orchid Bride is a laid-back luxury bridal shopping experience in the North of England.

Accessories were from Botias Accessories who offer luxury bridal and occasion accessories.

BEAUTY

We wanted natural hair and elegant, luxurious makeup. We had two looks – one where the bride wore her hair down showing off her lovely tousled hair and a simple bun for the second look.

Our MUA was Amy Rose, luxury bridal make up for the modern bride. She’s based Cotswolds but working all over the UK and abroad. On hair duty was Becca Hunton, a specialist based in Yorkshire but travelling far and wide!

RESULTS

It was brilliant! The weather was perfect, and really mild for November so we were able to shoot outside loads. The outside tablescape, which we were able to shoot as dusk was falling, was a particular highlight. Far from it being Thirsk in November, visually it felt like we were shooting abroad!

2022 is almost fully booked and I’m so excited about the beautiful weddings ahead of me for this year. Whilst I’m based in Yorkshire, I made the decision I’d like to travel further afield and this year already takes me up as far as Northumberland and as far south as Surrey. The 2023 diary is now officially open too!

I did a full day music package up here when it first opened. I’m recommended by a lot of the top venues in the North and I have to say, Thirsk Lodge is elite grade decoration and styling. A real treat. As were the staff. The owner actually took my card for future recommendations, so hopefully I’ll become a supplier there too. It went very well.
